It is the intention that Sport at St. Michael’s provides a satisfying and rewarding educational experience, with opportunities to not only develop physical literacy, but an individual social, spiritual and moral education through an ‘all round active participation’.

In appreciating success and failure, coupled with a central ethos of ‘fair play’ and sporting behaviour, sport plays a focal point in children’s development.

Sport at St. Michael’s is delivered within three distinct strands; Physical Education, Swimming and Games. Games lessons offer provision for team sports in football, hockey, rugby, netball, rounders, cricket, tennis.

In addition to the above, there are also a variety of extracurricular sports available after the academic day has finished. These are a mixture of ‘fun’ clubs accessible to all. These run parallel to our competitive team fixtures where children can develop their skills and game play.

There is also the opportunity to extend the competitive experience with tours to both Guernsey and England that enrich our provision of our team games. Recent tours include a Colts Cricket tour to Somerset, Rugby Sevens to a National UK Prep School Competition, as well as Senior UK Football and Hockey Tours.

Children are regularly selected for representative teams on the island following selection by the school for trials. Recent successes in Athletics, Cross Country, Cricket, Football, Hockey and Netball have seen a number of St.Michael’s children represent the Island across a variety of age ranges.

Supplementing the curricular and extra curricular provision, a wide range of sports are keenly contested amongst the four houses of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
