The Governing Body aims to ensure an appropriate leadership and governing structure is in place and developed to maintain the School traditions and reputation. Mr M Taylor, LLB, LLM (Chairman)

Mark was appointed as a Governor in 2021. He took over as Chair of the Governors in October 2022.

Mark was educated at St Michael’s, leaving in 1979 to attend Canford School in Dorset. He is a qualified lawyer and practiced in London before moving to Jersey to work for one of the leading offshore firms. He qualified as an Advocate of the Royal Court on his return and was a partner in the Dispute Resolution team until his retirement in 2020.
Mark is married to Carrie and they have four children, who were all educated at St Michael’s.
In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, tennis, cycling for charity and trips to Murrayfield.

Mrs J Austin, BA (Cambs Hons), PGCE

Jacky was appointed as a Governor in 2021 and is a member of the Academic Committee.

Jacky read French and Physical Education at Birmingham University and then taught in London, before working in Sport and NHS administration.
Jacky moved to Jersey in 1993 with her husband Phil and two daughters, who were both educated at St Michael’s. Jacky worked on a part-time basis at the school over a period of seven years.
A keen sportswoman, she has represented the island, and enjoys many sports, speaking french, cookery and travel.

Keith Brown

Keith was appointed as a Governor in November 2022 and is the Safeguarding Governor within the school.

He is a serving Headmaster at Willington Prep in Wimbledon. Having previously served as Deputy Headmaster at St John’s Northwood. Keith brings a wealth of experience to the Board having taught every age from Nursery to Upper Sixth over the past 28 years. He holds an MA in Computers in Education from King’s College.
Since joining Willington, Keith has driven the School forward with the move to 11+, co-education, the launch of the Nursery and the provision of in-house catering.
Hailing from the Scottish Borders town of Melrose, Keith is married to Anne and they have four grown up children. In his spare time Keith enjoys cycling and is a keen musician, regularly playing in a band to raise money for charity.

Mrs J Clapham, OBE, BA (Hons)

Jill was appointed as a Governor in 2010 and is a member of the Education and the Risk and Compliance Committees

Jill read Classics at King’s College London. She taught Latin at Hautlieu School and Jersey College for Girls and scholarship Latin at St Michael’s.
She has been a member of the Education Department’s subcommittee for Special Education and a member of the Ethics Committee at the Jersey General Hospital.  For many years she was a volunteer and Director of Jersey Samaritans and member of the committee for the Jersey Women’s Refuge.
Jill served for nine years as a panel member of the Jersey Youth Court. She also served for fourteen years as a Jurat of the Royal Court becoming Lieutenant Bailiff during her last three years and served as a member of the Prison Board of Visitors and Chair of the Probation Board.
Jill was awarded the OBE for services to the Royal Court and the island community.
She is married with two children and four grandchildren.

Mr C Davies, BA (Hons), PGCE

Chris was appointed as a Governor in 2017 and he is the Chair of the Risk and Compliance Committee.

Chris has been a Senior School History Teacher for 18 years and a Prep School Headmaster (18 years at Abingdon Prep School and Edgeborough Prep School)
He was the Chairman of the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) from 2017 to 2020 and was the Founder of the IAPS consultancy.  He remains a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching  and an Associate of Education Advisors (AOEA)
When he has some spare time, Chris enjoys being a playing member of the MCC and he is also Chairman of the Eton Fives Association.

Mr E Daubeney, BA (Hons), MBA

Ed was appointed as a Governor in 2020.

He has an Honours degree in History from the University of Southampton and holds an MBA from Ashridge Hult Business School.
Ed is an independent consultant and project manager who works with private sector organisations.  This includes assisting high growth companies who require early-stage capital.  Ed works with businesses from a range of commercial sectors, but focuses on technology companies.
He is Deputy Group Chairman of Vantage, an insurance and pensions business based in Jersey and an NED of the Polygon Collective.  He is also an NED of Calligo Limited, Jersey Sport and the President of EYECAN.
Ed started his career with Ford Motor Company, working in a number of Industrial Relations roles.  He became the HR Director of the Le Riche Group, which was the Channel Islands’ largest private sector employer and then transitioned into commercial management and was the Managing Director of CI Hospitality.  He led this business through major change prior to its acquisition by The Liberation Group and remained on the Board for a number of years.  He has also operated as a project manager within a public sector environment and successfully implemented projects that enabled the creation of Digital Jersey, Visit Jersey and Jersey Sport.
Ed was born in Jersey and was both a St Michael’s pupil and parent.

Mrs S Jenkin, BA, DipEd

Sheila was appointed as a Governor in 2011 and is the Chair of the Academic Committee.

Sheila was born in India and brought up in Jersey.  Sheila attended St Mary’s Convent, Shaftesbury, Dorset and she has a degree in English.
Shelia taught English and Latin at Pimlico School, London for four years, then moved to Kenilworth School where she taught English for 10 years. This was followed by a move to Jersey, where Sheila taught English at Grainville School and later at  Hautlieu, where Sheila spent 12 years as Deputy Head of the English Department and in charge of Year 12. In 1999 Sheila moved to St Michael’s, where she was Head of English for six years until her retirement in 2006.
Sheila’s interests include sea swimming, walking, bridge, cryptic crosswords and reading.

Mr M Lascelles, BA (Hons), PGCE

Mark was appointed as a Governor in 2020.

He is currently the Head Master of Dauntsey’s School, in Wiltshire, having been appointed in September 2012.  Prior to this, he was at The King’s School, Canterbury, where he spent three years as the Lower Master (Senior Deputy Head).  He very much enjoyed his time in Kent although he had not bargained for the 2010-11 year, when he was Acting Headmaster too.
Mark was educated at The Dragon, Shrewsbury School and Durham University.  After completing his degree in Geography, and a PGCE, he returned to Shrewsbury.  He taught Geography, was Master-in-Charge of Football, Fives and Cricket, and was a boarding Housemaster. He is married to Amber and they have three daughters.
He has been a Governor of three Prep Schools – Yarlet Hall, The Ryleys and Brambletye – and is currently on the boards of Brambletye and Abingdon School.

Mr N J Taylor, BSc, FCA

Nick was appointed as a Governor in 1998. He is the Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee and was Chairman from 2010 to 2022.

Nicholas is a Chartered Accountant and qualified with Coopers & Lybrand in Jersey.  He spent time in their London and Nairobi offices, before returning to Jersey to establish a management consultancy practice for the firm.  He is currently a non-executive director for a number of companies, and his roles include chairman of the board and of the audit committee.  Prior to this he was CFO / COO for the FirstRand Group’s offshore businesses, which included wealth and investment management, trust services and fund administration.
Nicholas was initially a member of the Advisory Committee established in 1998 to assist with the transition of the school to a new charitable trust.
Nicholas is an old boy and is married to Sue, and their four children were all educated at St Michael’s.

Mr M Christensen, BA (Hons), ACA

Matt was appointed as a Governor in 2023. He is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

Matt is a Chartered Accountant, qualifying with Deloitte in London. Having moved back to Jersey in 2011, he is now a partner of Rawlinson & Hunter, Jersey. Outside of work, Matt has undertaken several voluntary positions: Chair – Jersey Community Relations Trust (States of Jersey Assembly appointment) (2019-2022); Treasurer – PWSA UK (current – appointed 2019); Treasurer – Cancer Research UK, Jersey branch (2012-2015).

Matt is an old boy, as is his father, and is married to Joanna. Two of their children are currently at St Michael’s.
