The Junior Department comprises Years 3 and 4. Within this department, the majority of subjects continue to be taught by the Form Teachers with the exceptions of Music, Drama, Engineering, Art, Reasoning and Sport.
Pupils are taught by dedicated and experienced Form staff, who have enthusiasm and flair for teaching Junior aged children. Their knowledge of learning styles is applied to all lessons, in order to enhance the learning experience for all children. Form teachers are supported by experienced teaching assistants during core subjects. The Junior Department has their own learning support teacher, who is available for 1:1 and group lessons, supporting all abilities of learners. With the continued small class sizes, staff know the pupils well, and are able to provide excellent pastoral care.
Children within this Department continue to follow the Pre-Prep Department timetable but join the Senior School for various events throughout the year, including House meeting, Sports Day, Festival of Lessons and Carols and the Summer Concert. The school day starts at 08.40 and finishes at 16.05, unless your child is taking part in an after-school club.
Pupils of this age are encouraged to become more independent and are requested to arrive in the classroom by themselves and settle to work, between 08.15 and 08.30. We have an open door policy and would encourage parents to feel that they can come and discuss any queries and concerns they may have.
Children in the Junior Department are set two preps a week, in addition to daily expectations of reading, spelling and rapid recall of number bonds and tables.
