We are pleased to announce that we have a new recruit joining the St Michael’s team. Mr Vincent Holden M.Ed., BSc (Hons), PGCE, FRSB has accepted the position of Deputy Head (from September 2020) after meeting governors, staff and pupils over the last few weeks.
As a current Deputy Head who is passionate about education, Mr Holden joins us from Hazelgrove Preparatory Boarding and Day School in Sparkford. Here Mr Holden was responsible for overseeing the smooth running of a busy IAPS prep school.
Mr Holden originally trained and taught as a Science and Physical Education teacher at Hinchley Wood School from 1999-2001. Here he taught Science to Key Stage 4, specialising in Biology at A-Level. From this position, Mr Holden became Head of Biology at the British School of Milan. Here he continued to teach Biology to Years 10 to 13 as well as being a Year 9 form tutor, overseeing the pastoral care of students in his form.
From 2002 – 2006 Mr Holden was a Division Master at St Benedict’s School in Ealing. This role saw him continue to develop his pastoral care experience as well as coach the Under 16 XV and VII and 1st XV Rugby teams as well as manage school ski trips and A-Level Physical Education.
As well as his roles in day schools, Mr Holden also has experience at Boarding Schools such as Worth School, West Sussex, where he was employed from 2006 – 2009 as their Director of Sport. Here, Mr Holden was responsible for the delivery of both A-Level and GCSE Physical Education as well as organising school sports tour programmes including a Cricket tour of Dubai and a Senior Rugby tour to South Africa.
After this role, Mr Holden then became Housemaster at The Oratory School in Reading and was responsible for the Pastoral care and academic development of over 80 boys in the school. This role gave him the knowledge and experience for his final role before St Michaels, Deputy Head at Hazelgrove Preparatory School in Sparkford.
Despite being a Deputy Head Mr Holden still enjoys his time in the prep school classroom and on the sports field. He especially enjoys coaching Hockey and Cricket and is very excited about the sports development project now underway which will enhance the facilities in these two sports.
As well as having a keen interest in Science and Humanities, Mr Holden is a passionate Rugby player, representing Surrey at U17, U18 and U21 level.
Additionally, Mr Holden enjoys kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, skiing and open water diving! Having led many school ski trips we know that Mr Holden will be a fantastic asset on future trips and overseeing major school events.
Mr Holden will be joining our school in September and comes to Jersey with his wife, two sons and very faithful Irish Setter, Murphy.
I have no doubt you will join us in giving Mr Holden a very warm welcome to St Michael’s Preparatory School.
