We are thrilled that St Michael’s School Chamber Choir will be singing at The Jersey Opera House in a concert entitled ‘Love Stories’ presented by Music in Action on Saturday the 25th of January at Noon. The concert is in aid of the Oscar Maclean Foundation.

Oscar Maclean was a pupil at the school until he very sadly passed away in 2013 aged only 9. In his short life, he demonstrated endless bravery and dignity beyond his years against his deadly adversary – a Grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a malignant brain tumour -which eventually stole his young life away from him. His legacy continues in the form of the Oscar Maclean Foundation, a charity that raises funds for Jersey based projects to help children with cancer & chronic disease.

This special programme of amazing music features not only our own Chamber Choir but the Jersey Chamber Orchestra performing a varied programme of love stories ranging from a parent’s love for their child to great romantic love stories. Also performing will be the Internationally renowned pianist Anna Fedorova, Anna Smith of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and eminent conductor Eamonn Dougan who leads some of the greatest orchestras in the UK. Eamonn will guide the audience through a number of classics including the stunning Overture to La Traviata, Johan Strauss’s waltzes in Roses from the South, and Salut D’Amour by Elgar alongside Rachmaninov’s 2nd piano concerto. Musical Originals Choir will also be performing a number of pieces, including the children’s classic The Owl and the Pussycat.

Our Chamber Choir has 27 members from years 7 and 8. They have been rehearsing 3 times a week in the lead up to this special concert. The choir will be singing Can’t help falling in love and My Heart will go on from the Titanic film in the matinee.

We are very proud of the Chamber Choir, as indeed we are of our other two choirs, all of whom regularly participate in local competitions. The school also has two orchestras and a number of ensemble groups. All children throughout the school sing in assemblies twice a week. We believe that music and song is an important element of the academic mix, giving our pupils an assured confidence on stage that strengthens their character helping them perform even better in the classroom across all other subjects.

This fund raiser for the Oscar Maclean Foundation will entail two concerts. St Michael’s Chamber Choir will perform at the 12.00 performance only.

The event is supported by the Chief Minister together with the Lieutenant-Governor and will incorporate a VIP reception whilst raising funds for the Oscar Maclean Foundation.

Tickets for the event can be purchased directly from the Jersey Opera House or from their website https://www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk/show/music-in-action-presents-love-stories/ we do hope that you will consider coming along to support our children at the matinee or enjoy an evening of romance with some of the most passionate and uplifting music ever written while raising money for the Oscar Maclean Foundation.
