U11A Netball Tournament
On Saturday the girls met at Les Ormes for the under 11”A” tournament.
All the girls were very excited and found it hard to settle to their 1st game. We drew this match against St Peter’s 5-5 and so set ourselves an uphill task to qualify in 1st place in the group. The girls rose to the challenge and scored sufficient goals in their remaining matches to finish group winners.
In the semifinals St Michael’s played St George’s. Knowing they were a strong team we had to position our girls tactically trying to counteract their power. They played magnificently and won the match 7-1.
The final was unbearably tense, we played against Beaulieu who had been unbeaten all morning and were the overwhelming favourites to win the tournament. The team started magnificently and were ahead at half-time. We actually had the chance to clinch the victory just before full-time but the ball just dropped wide of the post. At full-time the score was 5 goals all and so we had to play a period of extra time. Unfortunately we were unable to sustain our pressure and lost the final match 9-6.
This was a tremendous effort on the part of all our girls and although disappointed not to have one they should be thoroughly pleased with the magnificent effort they put in. Thanks must also go to all the parents, Miss Hicks and Mrs Andrews for their unwavering support.
