St.Michael's boys hockey toured to Guernsey on Saturday 28th February to play two fixtures. The first, was the anticipated return fixture against Elizabeth College U12's. With very little time between landing at the airport and 'push back' the boys started slowly at the Footes Lane astroturf. Despite this, St.Michael's found their form and moved into a 1-0 lead. A close encounter followed and although no other goals were scored, St.Michael's closed out a well-earned victory.
Touring to Guernsey to play two fixtures within the day is an exciting yet physical prospect for the boys. This years' challenge was made even greater due to the fact we had only eleven players travelling. Sadly, this was a result of two late cancellations due to injury. With this in mind the boys enjoyed an enormous lunch, courtesy of the Elizabeth College refectory, with extra lashings of pudding.
Needless to say, the second fixture was not without its challenges! Despite a keen pep talk and a rigorous warm up we were very quickly down 2-0. This was an U12 Guernsey team with a handful of very talented young players and fresh legs. Fortunately the boys kept their heads up, fought hard and dug deep. St.Michael's gradually clawed themselves back into the match executing a few good goals. 2-2 became 3-2 and by half time and the intensity of the game had shifted once again. As the final whistle blew, the mist that had lingered over Footes Lane finally began to lift, just in time for our return flight home. A 5-3 win topped off a great day on tour for our boys.
