Cross Country 2017
The St. Michael's Annual Inter House Cross Country event seems to come round all too soon but the terrific support from parents and spectators always warms the hearts of the runners. This years competition saw some excellent individual and team performances. With all children in Years 3 to 8 rising fantastically well to the challenge.
Junior Boys and Girls in Years 3 and 4 took part in a funky hat fun run over one lap of the course. Hats from Angry Birds to Traffic Cones bobbed around in the distance with Wizards and Woolly Wigs and a great time was had by all, especially when the caramel eggs were dished out at the finish!
The business end of the day saw the Intermediate and Senior House Competitions eagerly contested in two further age bands with Years 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 across a graded course with jumps with each child contributing to their house score. St. Michael’s pupils pushed themselves to the finish in the biting chill!
When it came down to sharing the winner’s spoils, Luke House dominated both the Intermediate and Senior team events in the Inter House Mixed Competition over a newly designed cross-country course.
The individual competitions were keenly contested in both the Intermediate (Years 5 and 6 and Senior) (Years 7 and 8) events. Trophies were once again monopolised by Luke House who took three of the four cups on offer. This reflected some excellent individual performances and several personal bests from proud competitors of all abilities.
The Intermediate boys race was won by a pupil in Mark House, the only athlete to force Luke House from the winners podium all afternoon in a blistering 4 minutes and 50 seconds. A pupil in Luke House held off all challengers, to take the title of first Intermediate Girl in a swift time of 5 minutes 20 seconds. Luke also took the Intermediate team event. This was just reward for several gutsy personal performances that ensured a comprehensive win by a stunnning100 points over the nearest house.
The first Senior girl was in Luke House, finishing with an impressive winning time of 8 minutes 18 seconds. The first Senior Boy in Luke house pasted the finishing tape in a nippy 7 minutes and 31 seconds.
